Nothing is Guaranteed
I wonder what Anthony Smith will guarantee this week. Then again, I don’t really care what he has to say. He opened his mouth and the Patriots shut it for him. New England is now 13-0 after thrashing the Steelers, 34-13, and Smith was burned twice on long TD passes. Maybe he’ll learn from this, but I doubt it. Guys who speak when they shouldn’t rarely do. Tom Brady threw for 399 yards and 4 TDs against the league’s top defense coming into the game. Anybody still doubting the Pats will run the table and go undefeated?
The two teams with the best hope of stopping New England’s date with destiny in the postseason had big games, one dramatic, one not so much. San Diego won its third straight game and for the seventh time in its last nine contests with a comeback 23-17 overtime victory in Tennessee. The Chargers fell behind 17-3 before scoring twice in the fourth quarter to send it to the extra session, the second time on a Philip Rivers TD pass to Antonio Gates with just nine seconds left. Then, when a field goal would win it, LaDanian Tomlinson made sure a kick wasn’t necessary, racing in from 16 yards out for the game-winner. On the road, against a team fighting for a playoff berth, it was an impressive reversal of fortune, and a game SD probably loses a couple of months ago.
Meanwhile, Indianapolis did it the easy way, racing out to a 23-0 lead in the first quarter and thumping Baltimore. Peyton Manning was his usual brilliant self, completing 13 of 17 passes for 249 yards and four TDs. Joseph Addai ran for two scores and was on the receiving end of another, and Indy destroyed the team that gave the Pats fits on Monday night.
Enjoy the start to your week. I’m hopeful of having folks from the Chargers and the Dodgers on the show this week, and Sean Venedam will be live in the studio on Wednesday to talk Condors hockey. Tune in for all the fun, vote in the Goodwill Industries Power PLayer of the Week poll, submit your Oreck Vacuum Dirtbag of the Week nominations, and call in live and email me with your comments and questions.
THERE IT IS!

This is a great show.
I wonder how many of the people jumping all over Michael Vick eat factory-farmed pork. The pigs almost undoubtedly have lives worse than the dogs Vick used to fight and later killed.
Also, I wonder how many people criticizing Barry Bonds voted for Bill Clinton who cheated in his election runs (e.g., Chinese funny-money).
I also wonder how many people who want Barry Bonds kept out of the Hall of Fame have no problem with the airport, roads, and other things named after known election cheat JFK (e.g., Chicago and West Virginia).
Some of the public commentators are inconsistent lightweights.
Mr. Kershnar,
I’m sorry — what does factory-farmed pork, Bill Clinton and JFK have to do with a sports show?! Why bring your political ax to this site to grind, when there are so many political shows and blogs available where they’d be happy to discuss those kind of talking points?
If you want to talk sports, this is a good place to do it. If you’re not here to talk sports, then you’re just as much an inconsistent lightweight as the public commentators that you’re railing against.
