The Incredible Story of Clayton Holmes

Wednesday, Feb. 27, I had two very special guests on the show, former Dallas Cowboys defensive back Clayton Holmes, and former Sports Illustrated and current ESPN.com writer Jeff Pearlman.

Back in January, Pearlman chronicled the painfully sad saga of Holmes’ rise to stardom with the Cowboys in the 90s, and his subsequent fall into the depths of depair including a suicide attempt.  His formative years were marked by physical and mental abuse from his mother and father, and molestation by his older brother.  At the end of the story, you will be hard pressed to imagine a worse life.

Amazingly, since that article, Holmes appears to have gathered strength from telling his story, and is now taking steps to make something of his life, and trying to help others avoid the same fate.  Pearlman’s follow-up just a few weeks ago is like a Hollywood ending, only it’s happening in real life.
