A Prayer to the God of Sports
It’s been tough to be a Mets fan the last few years.
-In 2006, my favorite team was a win away from the World Series but was knocked out by Yadier Molina and the Cardinals.
-In 2007, they collapsed down the stretch and blew a 7-game lead with just 17 games left and lost the division to the Phillies.
-In 2008, they collapsed down the stretch again and lost the division to the Phillies again.
-In 2009, injuries crushed the team after a good start.
-In 2010, the team just stunk.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the Phillies won the World Series in 2008.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the Phillies and Yankees played in the World Series last year, leaving us Mets fans without a team to root for at all. I’m still not sure what happened because I didn’t watch it and refused to read anything about it. Who won?
Now here we are in 2010. The “experts” picked the Phillies and Yankees to meet again in the Fall Classic. But something funny has happened along the way….the Giants and Rangers have shown themselves to be just as good if not better than their opponents. And now both are just a win away from the promised land. So here’s my prayer.
Dear God of Sports,
Please allow the Giants and Rangers to reach the World Series. I can’t handle another Yankees and Phillies World Series, and I’m pretty sure millions of other good people can’t either. Plus, giving Fox the Giants and the Rangers would likely hurt ratings and cause Bud Selig and Rupert Murdoch to suffer, which I’m sure you would appreciate. Finally, either the fans in San Francisco or Texas would get to enjoy a title and celebrate, which has never happened before in baseball history. Surely, that thrill of victory is something you wish to spread around to all members of your flock.
Sincerely,
Jake Stevens
P.S. Can you allow my J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS to reach and win the Super Bowl at least once in my lifetime? Sorry if this is too much to ask, even of you!
THERE IT IS!
-Jake Stevens

Dear God of SPorts,
WORD UP!!!!
What, no Michigan in the mix?
