It’s Not Bragging If You Can Back It Up
“If I really wanted to, if I really wanted to be the scoring [champion] every single year — every single year — I could really do it. But it doesn’t matter.” – LeBron James
Some people might see that as bragging. Some people might get bent out of shape over this sort of declaration. Muhammad Ali wouldn’t be one of them.
Ali famously said, “It’s not bragging if you can back it up.”
LeBron can back it up. Not only that, he understands the scoring title means nothing, the ring is the thing.
“It’s not important to me at all. Right now our team is in a position to try to clinch throughout the whole playoffs,” James said of home-court advantage. “If we can do that, that will be more important than a scoring title. Individual accolades take care of [themselves].”
Now if he said he could lead his team to a title every year, that would be bragging. And I’d love to see him try to back that up!
