March Sickness
I was so excited for March Madness. I love the tourney and will be spending the first four days of it gambling and partying in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, today I came down with a case of March Sickness, thanks to my Michigan Wolverines.
It wasn’t bad enough they have had an awful year after being ranked #15 in the preseason. It wasn’t bad enough they blew a home game against archrival Michigan State in the final seconds. It wasn’t bad enough they won’t make the NCAA Tournament. Nope, they had to take it just one step too far.
Today, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament, which they would need to win to get to the Big Dance, they faced hated Ohio State, the top seed in the conference and one of the better teams in the country. Somehow, the Wolverines rallied from a double-digit second half deficit to take a two-point lead with 2.2 seconds left. Surely even they couldn’t screw this up, right? WRONG! In fact, they did so many things wrong it’s hard to believe.
-They didn’t guard the inbounder.
-They didn’t guard the player receiving the pass, who oh-by-the-way is the Big Ten’s Player of the Year!
-They didn’t guard that player even as he dribbled up the court.
-They didn’t make him pass the ball or change direction in any way.
-They didn’t do anything that would be considered defense at all. In fact, they gave a textbook demonstration of what not to do.
-And of course, he made a miracle three-pointer to win the game.
It’s been hours since the game ended and my stomach is still in knots and the steam is still coming out of my ears. I have a full-blown case of March Sickness and I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon.
THERE IT IS!

Did they call a timeout they didn’t have?
