Manny Comes At No Price

As the hours counted down to the trading deadline, it looked like the Angels were going to be the LA team that made the biggest move.  After all, the acquisition of Mark Teixeira was huge, adding the big bat the team desperately needed.  The Dodgers had merely dealt for Casey Blake, a solid player but certainly not a superstar that could drastically affect the team’s fortunes.

But all that changed when the Dodgers amazingly pulled off one of the GREATEST DEADLINE DEALS EVER, getting Manny Ramirez to fill the hole in the middle of their lineup, FOR NOTHING!

Yes, technically they sent Andy LaRoche and minor-league pitcher Bryan Morris to Pittsburgh.  But they didn’t give up Andre Ethier or Matt Kemp or James Loney, nor did they give up Clayton Kershaw or any of their other top prospects.

Wait, it gets better.  They don’t even have to pay Manny, AS THE RED SOX WILL BE DOING THAT!

And if that isn’t enough, consider that Manny will be trying to prove the Red Sox made a huge mistake.  Plus, he’s looking for his last big contract, so there’s no doubt he’s motivated to put up huge numbers for the next couple of months.

The Angels deal for Teixeira was good.  The Lakers deal for Pau Gasol was phenomenal.  With the Dodgers now the favorites to win the NL West and a real shot to go to the World Series, this one could be the best of all.  All they did it for nothing!

THERE IT IS!

  1. All for nothing if we don’t resign him. I love our chances now, but hope we can hold onto him and unload SHREK JONES some where else to make room for Manny.

  2. It is a fine line between great trade and terrible trade. LaRoche was one of LAs top prospects and if he develops into a star and the Dodgers do not make the playoffs this year then the trade will likely be remembered as a bust.
