Timing Is Everything
Super Bowl XLIV Media Day turned into a coming out party. No, not for Peyton Manning. Nor Drew Brees. In fact, it wasn’t for any of the players on either team. It was for ME!!!
OK, so I didn’t become a star. But as fate would have it, I was in the right place at the right time, when the Colts’ Melvin Bullitt decided to prank his own QB, Manning, during the session. As Bullitt asked Peyton if he planned to run the wildcat on Sunday, the cameras were snapping away, including Sports Illustrated’s David Bergman’s. Obviously, having me on the right side of Bullitt in the photo made it iconic, so they made it their web cover story photo, as you can see here (as well as on the homepage of ESPN1230’s official website).

Besides mugging for photo ops, I did also find out some interesting bits of information about the Saints. I learned Darren Sharper was annoyed enough by Peyton Manning accidentally calling him Jamie (that’s his older brother) that he’s taken to referring to the Colts QB as Eli. I found out Anthony Hargrove is the biggest clown on a team full of pranksters. And I discovered if you doze when other players are around, you might end up with hot sauce on your lips.
All in all it was quite an interesting and informative day. And of course, I’m enjoying my 15 minutes of fame!
