Life Without Tiger
The PGA season has begun without the game’s greatest player. Of course, the show must go on. But while this may be an opportunity for other players to win more tournaments and money, by all accounts they all want Tiger to return. Phil Mickelson, who stands to profit the most, considering he’s probably the second best and second most popular player in the world, said as much on Wednesday with a brief, to the point, “The game of golf needs him to come back.”
On Thursday, I’ll be at the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open. Historically, this was Tiger’s first event of the year. He loved playing in San Diego and dominated at Torrey Pines, racking up six titles in the past 11 years, including four straight from 2005-2008.
It will be interesting to hear what the players have to say about his absence, but also how the fans view the situation. There’s no bigger star in any sport than Tiger in golf, regardless of what has happened off the course. I look forward to sharing the information I gather with you on Thursday night’s show.
