I laugh every time I hear a youth versus experience argument, because it’s useless. Sometimes youth triumphs because it has endless energy and enthusiasm. Sometimes experience wins because it has been there before and knows what it takes. On Sunday, we saw both sides represented brilliantly. So instead of arguing, just enjoy those young and old who [...]

There’s nothing quite like the NBA Draft. David Stern smirking every time he’s at the podium. Youngsters nervously waiting for their names to be announced. TV talking heads declaring selections good or bad and then often contradicting themselves. And of course, fans in New York booing constantly, including their own team’s pick. What more could you want? Condolences [...]

As sports fans, we love arguments. Who is better… Kobe or LeBron? Brady or Manning? Ovechkin or Crosby? Pujols or… never mind, we know there’s nobody better in baseball than Pujols. And we can do that with a bunch of different categories. Among the favorite topics… who is overrated and who is underrated? For NASCAR fans, [...]

I had an opportunity recently to speak with former player and current TBS and SNY baseball announcer Ron Darling. He was quite candid with his comments, especially when it came to the topic of steroids. He bashed steroid users for cheating the game, cheating the greats like Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth, cheating the record [...]

As I only became a parent last fall, I really didn’t know what to expect on Father’s Day. As it turns out, like most days since my son Max was born, it alternated between exhilirating and exhausting, with an occasional period of exasperating thrown in. A number of big names in sports would probably use those same three words [...]
It’s 430am PT on Thursday morning. Why I’m up, I have no idea. I guess so I can start watching the U.S. Open, which just got underway. And when I say start watching, I mean staring at the leaderboard on USOpen.com and waiting for it to update, as well as clicking over to weather.com for [...]

As the Lakers parade through downtown LA Wednesday, they will celebrate the team’s 10th title. But maybe more impressive is the series against Orlando was the 24th time they’ve played for the championship in the last 50 years. It made me stop and wonder if they are the best sports franchise of the last half-century. [...]
Hectic might be a good way to describe this past weekend in the sports world. The Stanley Cup Finals were decided on Friday. The NBA Finals finished on Sunday. There were baseball teams on major streaks. There were golf tournaments deciding spots in the U.S. Open. There were NASCAR races coming down to the wire. [...]
As I was watching the end of Game 4, I began to envision the NBA Finals going to a Game 7, with all the accompanying storylines: -Kobe desperately trying to secure his first title without Shaq. -The Magic desperately trying to win their first championship. -Phil Jackson desperately trying to win a 10th ring as coach. -Shaq desperately [...]

So as a sports talk show host I get plenty of sports books sent to me and opportunities to interview the authors on my show. With plenty of reading time during the upcoming summer months, I thought I’d give listeners some recommendations out of the ones I’ve had a chance to read. So every other Thursday I’ll offer [...]
